We have on the go Chicago’s top picks for this weekend - September 8 & 9 - events that are just perfect for your family's city adventures!

From ice cream socials to harvest hoedowns, family fun abounds all over Chicagoland!  Grab the kids, and go have some kid-sized fun!

#1. Old Town Playdate - Harvest Hoedown with Little Miss Ann & Maria McCullogh

On the go is thrilled to sponsor this season's Playdates at the Old Town School of Folk Music.  We kick off this season with Little Miss Ann and Maria McCullogh and their Harvest Hoedown.  Join Old Town for sweet strumming, full-on fiddling, down-home dancing, up-beat singing, an old-timey kick up your heels celebration of all that is autumn! Come dressed as a young farmer, scarecrow, or your own favorite part of fall!.  

#2. Picnic Supper, Barnyard Dance and Ice Cream Social

Pack a picnic supper and bring the family to the farm! Wagon rides, live music, a square dance caller and all the fixins' for ice cream sundaes. Live music begins at 5:00.

#3. National Teddy Bear Day

Celebrate National Teddy Bear Day with a professional photo of your little one and their favorite teddy bear, glittler tattoos, prizes and more.

#4. Harvest Festival

Come join their celebration of the summer garden and its bounty at Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse. While visiting our gardens, you can enjoy hands-on crafts, organic gardening demonstrations, and cooking demonstrations with Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse volunteers.

#5. Scandinavian Jam

  • Swedish American Museum
  • Saturday, 1:30pm
  • FREE
  • all ages

Musicians and instructors Mary Allsopp and Paul Tyler will co-host a Scandinavian Jam at the Swedish American Museum the second Saturday of every month. All ages are invited to bring any instrument, regardless of level. Come for learning new Scandinavian songs or playing old classics!
