We have on the go Chicago’s top picks for this Labor Day weekend events that are just perfect for your family's city adventures!

From jazzin' it up in Grant Park to learning about the Civil War, family fun abounds all over Chicagoland!  Grab the kids, and go have some kid-sized fun!

#1. Civil War Encampment

  • Graue Mill, Oak Brook, IL
  • Saturday & Sunday, 10:30am-4pm

The Civil War Encampment, a favorite annual activity at Graue Mill, is a celebration of our country’s rich history. Members of the 10th Illinois Regiment, along with their families, will depict what life was like in a Union military camp in 1863. Complete with authentic clothing, weapons and tools, this event will truly take you back in time. There is excitement for all ages, including black powder firing demonstrations and drills, cooking and crafts. .  

#2. Labor Day Weekend Celebration

  • Illinois Railway Museum
  • Saturday, Sunday & Monday
  • $14 adults, $10 children
  • All Ages

Celebrate the end of summer by joining the Illinois Railway Museum for three days of fun! Pack a picnic, ride the trains, and have fun.  Plus, the West End Jazz Band will perform on Monday. 

#3. Chicago Jazz Festival

  • All ages

Known for its artistic creativity, the Chicago Jazz Festival is a favorite Labor Day Weekend tradition. It promotes awareness and appreciation for all forms of jazz through free live musical performance. Since 1979, the festival's mission is to showcase Chicago's vast jazz talent alongside national and international artists to encourage and educate a jazz audience of all ages.

#4. Fireworks

  • Navy Pier
  • Saturday, 10:15pm

  • All Ages

Celebrate the end of summer with a bang. Labor Day weekend is the last day for Navy Pier's fabulous fireworks, that are perfectly synchronized to music.  Perfect end to a fun summer day on Navy Pier.

#5. Bristol Renaissance Faire

  • Kenosha, WI
  • Saturday-Monday

Step back in time and enjoy renaissance style kid-sized fun!  From joust and games to rides and petting zoos, the entire family will have fun at the Faire!
