We have on the go Chicago’s top picks for this weekend - August 25 & 26 - events that are just perfect for your family's city adventures!

From free dance classes to catching a prize winning fish, family fun abounds all over Chicagoland!  Grab the kids, and go have some kid-sized fun!

#1. Fishing Derby 

  • Hidden Lakes Historic Trout Farm
  • Saturday, 9am-12pm
  • FREE
  • Ages - toddlers and school age

Don't miss the excitement of reeling in a prize fish during a fishing derby. Bait and tackle will be sold as usual in the Tackle Box Bait Shop.  

#2. Family Fun Festival

  • Millennium Park
  • Every day until September 2nd, 10am-3pm
  • FREE
  • All Ages

Every day of the summer you can enjoy FREE family performances (e.g.. Wigglerworms at 10am) and hands-on activities in the Family Fun Tent, located on the Park’s Chase Promenade North. 

#3. Sleeping Beauty

  • Wilmette Theatre
  • Sunday, 2:30pm
  • $15
  • Ages - toddlers and school age

The Sleeping Beauty is the pinnacle of classical ballet: a perfect marriage of Petipa’s choreography, Tchaikovsky’s music and a glorious challenge for every dancer onstage. Watch as one of Disney's most popular stories comes to life.

#4. Family Sundays

  • National Museum of Mexican Art
  • Sunday, 12-2pm
  • Small fee for materials
  • Ages - toddlers and school age

Take a family-friendly gallery tour and create art together during this fun and engaging session. Reservations are required. To register your child for classes or for more information on course offerings, please call (312) 433-3842.

#5. Day Out WIth Thomas

  • Illinois Railway Museum
  • Saturday & Sunday
  • $19 (advance tickets suggested)
  • all ages

Have a train lover in your house?  This weekend is the last weekend of Day Out With Thomas.  Tickets include one train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine™ for the trip specified on the Day Out With Thomas ticket, unlimited rides on all other trains and streetcars; all entertainment (puppet shows, live music, magic shows, etc.); and access to all Museum exhibits on the date specified on the ticket.
