As a special event and corporate entertainer for many years, one of the most common questions I get is how to plan and throw a successful children’s event that both parents and children can enjoy. Parents and planners alike get frustrated throwing the same old cake and coffee party every time they have a celebration for their child. Whether you’re needing to plan a small party at your home, a mitzvah, graduation or something as large as a fundraiser, these planning tips will help transform your party into a lifelong memory. Check out my five most helpful tips for party planning:

Decide on a theme: This is the fun part! Whether it’s your own idea or something your little one has thought of, deciding on a theme allows you to be as creative as you want. Having an idea in mind will help you pick corresponding decorations, cakes and activities as well. Some of the most popular party themes I have seen for 2017 are Chicago sports, Disney movie themes and Rockstar parties.

Create a budget: Listing out all the elements you want to see at your party and creating a budget beforehand will help you avoid any money mishaps. Start with your absolute must haves and go from there. If it’s not in budget, then you have room to adjust before you spend.

Use tools like Pinterest: Pinterest is a fantastic tool to use to gather ideas, find great DIY projects to amp up your party game, and even source local vendors and entertainers to make your event unique. Search by keyword, hashtags and locations. In addition, you can find recipes, decorations, party game ideas, crafts and more.

Develop an entertainment itinerary: Food and decorations will make your party look good, but entertainment will make your party memorable. Start by creating an itinerary and identifying lulls in the day where you can add games and entertainers. A party entertainer is a great way to keep your little guests occupied and having fun. That way, you can focus on being in the moment with your kids...and hopefully enjoying a slice of cake!

Give out unique party favors: Kids love when they get something special. Having original and fun party favors is a great way to say “thank you” to your guests and leave the children with something exciting to take home. Party favors can be anything from sweet treats to small toys to something as creative as a temporary tattoo or facepaint.

With these helpful hints, you’ll be the host of the season. Not only will the kids have a blast, but parents will be asking you to plan their children’s events too.
