May 16th was the inaugural meeting of Neighborhood Parents Network’s newest group, Moms In Business. The group was the brainchild of Katherine McHenry, owner of Building Block Toys (one of my favorite kid-sized businesses in Chicago). She wanted to create a way for mommy entrepreneurs and other moms in business to share best practices, connect and support each other and explore ways to be more successful in business and at home.
The event was fun, filling and fruitful. I enjoyed see...Posted on May 19, 2011 at 4:02 PM
When my daughter was born I was more than a little freaked out. She was a January baby. Every season has its challenges from crazy heat to icy snowstorms. As I get ready to host a New Moms Group tomorrow, I think back to my own NMG experien...Posted on May 08, 2011 at 6:08 PM

New CPS chief as teacher, principal

Brizard spent 13 years at a struggling Brooklyn high school, starting out as a well-liked science teacher who was quickly promoted to assistant principal of George Westinghouse High School. In 1999, he was made principal and quickly charged with remaking the school to save it from closure....Posted on May 06, 2011 at 2:04 PM

CNC will also weigh in about state funding issues and trends in education. If you have a question you'd like to see addressed, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.

At two, running into Lake Michigan’s waves no matter how many times they knock him down.

Have you heard of an au pair? Do you know how the au pair program works? Personally, I knew next to nothing about au pairs. Luckily, I had a chance to chat with Karen Hurley from Cultural Care Au Pair at our January Expectant Parents Childcare 101 event.
Karen explained that au pairs are caring and committed, adventurous and educated young people from abroad. More and more Chicago area families are turning to international childcare to find balance in their busy lives. In exchange f...Posted on March 24, 2011 at 8:11 PM
