Being a parent is hard. And, let's face it, being a parent in Chicago is even harder.
Not only is it tougher to find a supportive parenting community in an enormous city (good luck breaking into the mommy cliques on the playground!), but Chicago parents also have to contend with the, er, challenging school system in addition to other big-city issues like crime, a high cost of living and insane traffic. Luckily, Chicago is also home to gorgeous parks, fantastic schools, beautiful librar...Posted on May 05, 2016 at 10:48 AM

“She defied the odds” is usually associated with heroic tales. He beat cancer. She won the election. Her business thrived despite ________ (insert natural disaster here).
When you are infertile, beating the odds is the most deflating, depressing and difficult pill to swallow. I have now officially defied all odds, hooray! Just another badge to put on my IVF vest.
I am 29 years old and have been actively seeking infertility treatments for 1 year and 8 mon...Posted on April 19, 2016 at 3:24 PM
One thing I learned when I had toddlers: transitions are never easy. Whether dropping off at preschool, leaving them with a sitter, or getting through the nightly routine of dinner, bath, books and bed - my kids seemed to resist every step of the way. Naturally, I picked up a few tricks along the way: give plenty of notice, offer clear choices, and set a time limit if necessary.

Maybe you've made a New Year's resolution to cook more meals at home and rely less on the drive-thru, or maybe it's more of a a constant (and elusive) goal. Most of us would like to struggle less with dinner after a stressful day at work or at home, but how?
NPN members are talking about this issue over a couple different threads today. One member asks about the best meal-delivery service, and many people piped in with their favorites (who knew there were so many??). And another poses ...Posted on January 15, 2016 at 11:46 AM
Our super-awesome Winter 2016 issue is out, and now we're busily working to create the next Parent to Parent print member newsletter—the Toddler Issue!
We're looking for 1st-person, personal accounts of:
Breaking up with your toddler's childcare provider (nanny or daycare)
Tackling speech issues and getting treatment for your toddler
Looking back, advice you'd give yourself about handling the toddler years
Creating an adoption story for your toddler
The most popular posts on the NPN blog this year had nothing to do with left sharks, pizza rats or Drake's "Hotline Bling." Instead, they revolved around classic issues parents have been dealing with for ages: babysitters, breastfeeding and generally just trying to make raising kids in Chicago a bit easier.
5. Confessions of a babysitter: A veteran babysitter reveals what really goes on while sitters are watching your kids.
4. Favorite ways to celebrate the holidays in Chicago: Man...Posted on December 30, 2015 at 1:05 PM
