Brizard's CPS Listening Tour with NPN

Last week, eleven NPN volunteers, partners and staff members had the amazing opportunity to meet with the new CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, Jean-Claude Brizard, as part of his Listening Tour initiative. NPN has partnered with the Chicago News Cooperative to help parents get answers to questions they have about Chicago schools.  CNC education reporters will contribute posts about how CPS works and what's happening at the board of education. CNC will also weigh in about state funding issues and trends in education. Weigh in on budget cuts to education

As parents, we are faced with many “hot topic” issues dealing with raising our kids. While NPN does not take a formal position on advocacy issues, it is in keeping with our mission to provide a resource and forum for our members to share information and opinions on any “hot topics” that are relevant to raising children in the city.

The following statement was released by the Raise Your Hand Coalition regarding state budget cuts to education.

Get to know the incoming CPS CEO - Brizard

 

New CPS chief as teacher, principal

He will soon be in charge of all 675 Chicago public schools, but what was incoming CEO Jean-Claude Brizard like when he was a teacher and principal himself? Brizard spent 13 years at a struggling Brooklyn high school, starting out as a well-liked science teacher who was quickly promoted to assistant principal of George Westinghouse High School. In 1999, he was made principal and quickly charged with remaking the school to save it from closure....
