As parents, we are faced with many “hot topic” issues dealing with raising our kids. While NPN does not take a formal position on advocacy issues, it is in keeping with our mission to provide a resource and forum for our members to share information and opinions on any “hot topics” that are relevant to raising children in the city.

NPN has partnered with the Chicago News Cooperative to help parents get answers to questions they have about Chicago schools. CNC education reporters will contribute posts about how CPS works and what's happening at the board of education. CNC will also weigh in about state funding issues and trends in education. If you have a question you'd like to see addressed, please send it to email@example.com. CNC is our eyes and ears at the CPS Board of Education Meetings.

Holiday weekends are something I always look forward to but every time they get close, we have the inevitable debate: 1) take advantage of days off and deal with holiday weekend travel chaos/price hikes OR 2) enjoy a long weekend in Chicago and play tourist/cruise ship director.

But now I know better – all new parents feel a bit trapped and clueless – you quickly learn you need to meet other new parents ASAP. New parent groups are critical to survival.
As I get ready to host a New Moms Group tomorrow, I think back to my own NMG experien...Posted on May 08, 2011 at 6:08 PM

New CPS chief as teacher, principal
He will soon be in charge of all 675 Chicago public schools, but what was incoming CEO Jean-Claude Brizard like when he was a teacher and principal himself? Brizard spent 13 years at a struggling Brooklyn high school, starting out as a well-liked science teacher who was quickly promoted to assistant principal of George Westinghouse High School. In 1999, he was made principal and quickly charged with remaking the school to save it from closure....Posted on May 06, 2011 at 2:04 PM
